The project is about the conversion of an existing building to a contemporary vacation house. Τhe site is located in the traditional settlement of Spetses Island, with a beautiful view of the old port.

Originally built in various phases around 1980, the existing construction was made up of unplanned volumes of different usages and properties. Ιt consisted of three functionally independent levels.

The concept for the intervention is based on three main principles: The integration of the building into the traditionally built environment by simplifying its volumes and restoring the natural slope of the plot, the “opening” of the residence to the surrounding area and the creation of relaxation spaces, free of unnecessary elements.

The outline of the existing building was maintained on the first two levels. On the upper level a new extension was constructed on the west part, while the east part was demolished, in order to create a big veranda towards the view. The roof and the openings have been redesigned. The main entrance was designed on the west. The main living room was placed on the upper floor facing the view. The existing north entrance was maintained, to foresee a possible future division into two independent residences. The peristyle at the lower level was redesigned, as a transition between the secondary living room and the courtyard.

Moving around the different space areas and orientations, residents and guests have different views of the natural and urban landscape, being able to enjoy aspects of light throughout the day. The materials, natural and simple in soft color tones, comply with the Mediterranean light.

Το έργο αφορά στη μετατροπή υφιστάμενου κτιρίου σε σύγχρονο σπίτι διακοπών, για τις ανάγκες πολυμελούς οικογένειας. Το οικόπεδο βρίσκεται στον παραδοσιακό οικισμό των Σπετσών, σε προνομιακή θέση, με θέα στο παλιό λιμάνι.

Το υπάρχον κτίριο, κατασκευασμένο σε στάδια περί το 1980, ήταν διασπασμένο σε όγκους και χρήσεις (κατοικίες, ενοικιαζόμενα δωμάτια), σε τρεις ανεξάρτητες λειτουργικά στάθμες.

Στόχοι της παρούσας μελέτης ήταν: Η ένταξη του κτιρίου στον οικισμό μέσω της απλοποίησης των όγκων και της αποκατάστασης της φυσικής κλίσης του οικοπέδου, το «άνοιγμα» του κτιρίου προς το περιβάλλον του και η δημιουργία χώρων χαλάρωσης μέσω της αφαίρεσης κάθε περιττού στοιχείου.

Ο υπάρχων όγκος διατηρήθηκε στις δύο πρώτες στάθμες. Στην τρίτη στάθμη έγινε προσθήκη κατ’ επέκταση δυτικά και καθαίρεση όγκου ανατολικά για τη δημιουργία μεγάλης βεράντας προς τη θέα. Η στέγη και τα ανοίγματα επανασχεδιάστηκαν. Η κύρια είσοδος τοποθετήθηκε δυτικά στο ενδιάμεσο επίπεδο και το κυρίως καθιστικό στο ανώτερο επίπεδο, λόγω της θέας. Η υπάρχουσα είσοδος από το βορινό τμήμα της αυλής διατηρήθηκε, ως πρόβλεψη πιθανού μελλοντικού διαχωρισμού του κτιρίου σε δύο ανεξάρτητες κατοικίες. Επανασχεδιάστηκε ο υπόστυλος χώρος ανατολικά, στο κατώτερο επίπεδο, ως μετάβαση μεταξύ του δευτερεύοντος καθιστικού και της αυλής.

Κινούμενος κανείς στο χώρο απολαμβάνει ποικίλες θέες του οικισμού και του τοπίου, ενώ αντιλαμβάνεται τις εναλλαγες του φωτός στη διάρκεια της ημέρας στους διαφορετικά προσανατολισμένους χώρους. Τα υλικά που επιλέχθηκαν φυσικά και λιτά σε αποχρώσεις και υφές, υποτάσσονται στο μεσογειακό φως.
